Staying strong and mobile is the key to independence as we get older. Physiotherapy helps manage arthritis, improve balance, reduce the risk of falls and keep you doing what you enjoy.

Staying active and independent
Staying strong, mobile and steady on your feet is one of the most important things you can do for your health as you get older. Physiotherapy helps manage arthritis and joint pain, improves balance, reduces the risk of falls, and keeps you doing the things you enjoy.
It is never too late to get stronger. Research shows that people in their 70s, 80s and beyond can make significant gains in strength and balance with the right exercise.
Conditions we help with
Osteoarthritis of the hips, knees, hands and spine; stiffness and reduced mobility; balance problems and fear of falling; osteoporosis; recovery after a fall, illness or hospital stay; and support with long-term conditions such as Parkinson's disease or stroke recovery.
What happens at your appointment
Appointments are unhurried and family members or carers are welcome. We assess your strength, balance, walking and everyday tasks such as getting up from a chair or managing stairs, then agree simple, achievable goals with you.
Your exercise plan is designed to fit easily into your day, with clear instructions and printed or video guidance. We also advise on walking aids, footwear and home safety.
Reducing your risk of falls
Regular strength and balance exercise is proven to reduce falls. Keep your home well lit, remove trip hazards such as loose rugs, wear supportive shoes, have your eyesight and medication reviewed regularly, and stay as active as you can.
When to see your GP
Contact your GP if you have frequent falls, dizziness or blackouts, sudden weakness, or new confusion. Call 999 for chest pain, stroke symptoms or a serious fall.
